Estes Crushes the Field at Mopo!
(April 29, 2012) Like the '84 Celtics / Lakers NBA Championship, the SSBM 2012 spring opener was a battle of East versus West. And, just as Bird put the smack down on the Lakers in '84, Steve Estes used his knowledge of East Monponsett to dominate the rest of the field and lockup the victory in the first SSBM tourney of 2012. Steve primarily fished a jig to load the boat with 15.46 lb of Mopo Largemouth, most of which were caught before 10:00 am. Estes' bag included the overall lunker, weighing in at 4.86 lb. Matt Allen, who also fished the East pond, landed in second place with 13.93 lb caught on soft plastics. Brian Wheeler fought the good fight out of the West pond, and grabbed third place with 9.43 lb. Tim Farrell was fourth with 8.54 lb and Mike Achille fifth with 5.72 lb. Congratulations to Steve Estes and the rest of the top five.

SSBM Dominates Mass Bass State Team Open at Mashpee Wakeby
(April 14, 2012) Matt Allen and Brian Wheeler bagged an 8 fish limit that tipped the scales at 27.40 lb to lock up first place at the State Team Open at Mashpee Wakeby. Using a combination of Jerbaits and Soft Plastics, Allen and Wheeler brought in a mixed bag of Smallies and Largies, including Lunkers in both categories with a 5.58 lb Largemouth and 4.78 lb Smallmouth. Second place was captured by the SSBM team of Steve Estes and Mike Allen who brought in 21.98 lb, caught mainly on jerkbaits. Congratulations to both of the winning teams and to all SSBM members who participated in the tournament.
SSBM Supports Whitman's Pond Fishing Festival
(April 04, 2012) On May 20th, along the shores of Whitman pond from 10 AM - 2 PM, cast a line, learn about fish in our waters, safety, ethics, and fishing equipment. If you have fishing equipment, bring it along. A limited quantity of fishing equipment and bait will be available. MassWildlife is participating in this festival in cooperation with the Whitman's Pond Association and Weymouth Youth and Family Services.
