Matt Allen had a plan to fill out a limit of smallies early and then go hunting a kicker largemouth, and that's exactly what he did. After landing about 15 lb of Champlain smallmouth before 10:00 am, Allen pulled the plug on his offshore pattern and headed shallow. Skipping docks and fan casting sparse weed beds, Allen upgraded some of his smallmouth with hefty largies and then it was time to find a kicker. And with one cast, he did just that, hooking into a 6.28 lb brute largemouth that he was lucky to land after it wrapped him around some lake structure and almost broke off. But, he managed to boat the beast and finish out his limit at 20.33 lb which was more than enough to claim victory. Congrats to Matt Allen for a great win!
Bob Wheeler fought the good fight, landing a solid bag of smallies and largies, achored by a stout 4.98 lb kicker largemouth. With a limit that tipped the scales at 16.75 lb, Wheeler couldn't quite overtake Allen, but he had enough to secure second place and earn valuable points for the 2020 AOY race. Congratulations to Bob Wheeler for an impressive performance!
