Flipping weed beds and skipping docks

It was an uphill battle for Brian Wheeler as he flipped weeds all day Saturday and was only rewarded with 11.98 lb of Champlain bass. Typically, less than 12 lb on Saturday means less than first place on Sunday. But, Wheeler stuck with it and changed up his game plan from flipping weeds to skipping docks, and it was the right move to make. He got the right bites all day Sunday and built a solid bag of about 18 lb. He fished to the last minute trying to get that monster bite that would push him over 20 lb but that bite didn't materialize, and Wheeler was left wondering if he had enough to beat his arch nemesis Matt Allen? Only the weigh-in would tell.

When Matt Allen landed 18.80 lb on Day 1, he looked unbeatable, having just won the club 1-Day tourney on Friday with over 20 lb. But, the wind kicked up on Sunday and blew him off his smallie spot, and cloud cover made his dock bite unreliable, so Allen was left scrambling. He decided to work on a new, unproven, deep largie spot and although it was loaded with fish, they were all small. He brought only 11.03 lb to the scales and left the door open for Wheeler who made good on the opportunity. Weighing in 18.66 lb on Sunday, Brian Wheeler's two-day total of 30.64 lb was enough to take home the victory as Allen only totalled 29.58 for his two days of work. Congratuatlions to Brian Wheeler for a well-deserved victory!

New club member James Marino proved that he's ready to slug it out with the big boys as he landed the tourney lunker, a 4.22 lb Champlain Hawg! Congratulations to James for an impressive catch!
