Winning Pattern
Spinnerbaits in the wind
With drizzly overcast skies and a stiff wind blowing all day, conditions setup perfectly for the master of home-made spinnerbaits, Bob Wheeler. While most anglers were looking to get out of the wind and find a calm cove, Wheeler knew that wasn't the way to go. Despite a very tough bite, and lots of 9" Smallmouth making it difficult to find a keeper, Wheeler stuck to his plan of chucking and winding his signature spinnerbaits in wind-blown areas and it paid off. A few key bites early, and persistence the rest of the day landed Bob 10.75 lb including a 4.91 lb hawg largemouth. And although he didn't fill out his limit, the rest of the field struggled to find quality bites and four fish proved to be plenty to sercure the victory. Congratulations to Bob Wheeler for a hard-nosed performance and a great win!

Bill Barrett and Kevin White slugged it out for second place, with Barret edging out White with 8.96 lb on five fish. White landed a 7.97 lb limit, good for third. James Marino, fishing his first tournament as a boater, landed lunker Smallie for the year (so far) at 3.23 lb. Congratulations to the top finishers and to all the SSBM club members who made it through the 2022 Mashpee grind-fest!
