Senkos pitched around shallow rocks
With 38 degree air temperature and 46 degree water temp, the bite was tough to non-existent for most anglers all morning. A few club members found fish early, but for most it was a waiting game until the water warmed up and the bite turned on. Finally, around 1:00pm, when the water hit the 50's and the fish came out for some sun, D'Ambra figured it out and took full advantage. He headed straight for the shallows and pitched a senko to every rock he could find. It paid off...in the form of 9.00 lbs of Watuppa Largemouth which was just enough to take home the trophy at the SSBM season opener. Congratulations to Jim D'Ambra for a great victory under very tough conditions.
Tim Farrell took a different approach to the day, and it landed him in second place, less than a pound behind D'Ambra. Farrell slowly and thoroughly worked one spot for most of the day for all five of his keepers. It was a slow grind, but he force fed five decent fish and almost brought home the win.
New club member Bruce Allen also found fish in one general area and they brought him within a pound of the win at his first SSBM tournament. Despite searching the entire lake for upgrades, his one area was all that would produce, but it was almost enough to go all the way. Congrats to Bruce for a great first tourney with Southshore and to all of the club members that suffered through a tough day at South Watuppa.
