Bed fishing with soft plastics
It was a beautiful sunny morning that was perfect for bed fishing, and Elson got things rolling quickly.  He had a solid limit in the livewell before 9am and was on the hunt for big fish the rest of the day.  Using a texas-rigged creature bait and a drop shot wacky-rigged senko, Elson coaxed wary Wequaquet largemouth into biting.  He worked on a couple of his bigger fish for up to 30 minutes, but most of his limit hit fast and hard within the first few casts.  And he knew things were really going his way when a blind cast into 5ft of water parallel to the bank resulted in his biggest fish of the day, a 4.91 lb hawg.  After that, it was just a waiting game to see if anyone caught the bag of a lifetime to steal the victory.  But when the scales closed, Elson's 18.21 lb was more than enough for the win and to propel him into first place overall in the AOY standings.  Congratulations to Mike Elson for a solid performance and a great victory!

Fighting the good fight for second place with 15.34 lb was new club member Christian Tapia.  His solid bag of bed fish was anchored by a 5.08 lb log donkey that Tapia patiently coaxed off a bed after more than an hour of stealthy, close-quarters combat.  His patience was rewarded as that fish took Tourney Lunker honors for the day.  Brian Tuholski senko'd his way into third by landing 12.56 lb of Wequaquet largies anchored by a 4.26 lb kicker.  Bob Wheeler also had a solid bag at 12.22 lb, which was good for fourth place just ounces behind Tuholski.  And locking up the fifth spot was Bill Barrett with 11.32 lb.  Congratulations to the top five finishers and to all of the SSBM club members who did battle with the big Barnstable lake!
