On a day that had most club anglers weeding through 12” fish after 12” fish, Jim D’Ambra managed to locate some better bass and land a solid victory. Jim started his day out deep, throwing has Carolina Rig through some thick coon tail, and when he landed a solid largemouth early he thought he had the winning pattern established. But, after two more hours in the deep weeds, he had nothing more to show for his effort. Making a quick adjustment, D’Ambra bounced around the lake fishing everything from points and drops to docks and flats. Picking up a fish here and there, he was able to cull up to his winning weight and put the brakes on the Bill Barrett bass train that had dominated the first two tourneys. Jim fished his strengths and it paid off with a win.
Only ounces behind D’Ambra, Bob Wheeler landed a solid bag using spinnerbaits mixed in with a few other lures. Bob also landed the days runner-up lunker of 2.91 lb, only .04 lb behind D’Ambra’s 2.95 lb tourney lunker.
Bill Barret finished just behind Wheeler, breaking his streak of victories but still ending up with a strong showing. Barrett’s third place finish was enough to keep him in the lead in the 2019 AOY points race. Congratulations to Jim D’Ambra for a well deserved win and to all of the club members that did battle at Wequaquet lake!
