Winning Pattern
Forward facing sonar to locate roaming smallies in 15-35 ft

Brian Wheeler had a phenomenal 3-day stretch at Lake Champlain.  After a solid performance in the 1-Day tourney with over 16lb of Smallies, Wheeler went into Day 1 of the 2-Day with confidence.  Using his Lowrance LiveSight forward facing sonar, Wheeler located and fished groups of suspended Smallies following large balls of bait.  His pattern paid off with 16.98 lb of Bronzebacks, and landed him in second place on Day 1, just behind Mike Elson who weighed in 18.81 lb of Largemouth.  Elson caught most of his fish from weedlines in 6-10 ft and hard targets in the Alburgh Passage, but didn't really have a repeatable pattern in place.  Mike Drake landed the lunker of the day, a 4.43 lb Smallmouth.

Day 2 saw Wheeler fishing his same schools of Smallmouth, but this time with slightly better weather and a better bite he landed a massive 19.77 lb bag.  Elson stumbled and was only able to land three fish for about 9 lb leaving the door wide open for Wheeler and for Kevin White whose consistent 14+ lb bags on Days 1 and 2 bumped him in front of Elson at the Day 2 weigh-in.  White landed mixed bags of Smallies and Largies, noting that he was fishing mainly for Largemouth but caught a number of decent Smallies in the same areas.  Bob Wheeler also made a big push for the winners circle, bringing over 16 lb to the scales on Day 2 including the tourney lunker, a massive 6.17 lb Largemouth.  Young Gun James Marino, fishing as a non-boater, also moved up in the standings on Day 2 with a solid 13.65 lb bag which included a giant 5.02 lb Smallmouth.  But, when the final weights were tallied it was Brian Wheeler who took first place with 36.75 lb and a margin of victory of over 7 lb!  Brian's performance was not only good enough for the win but also landed him in the fourth place spot on the All-Time 2-Day weight list.  Congratulations to Brian Wheeler for another great win, and to all the SSBM club members who braved tough conditions on the big lake in search of bass fishing glory!
