Winning Pattern
Texas Rigged soft plastics in off-shore weeds
Based on a decent pre-fish, Mike Elson bet everything on bass setting up in sparse off-shore weeds. But with no bites by 11:00am, Elson started to question his strategy. And then the sun came out full force and it was like someone flipped a switch. Texas Rigging his way down one stretch of weeds in 4-5 ft of water, Elson landed a limit in about an hour. Quickly hitting two other weed lines during the mid-afternoon “bite window,” he was able to cull three times to work his way up to a massive limit of 8.72 lb. Luckily for Elson, everyone else was also struggling to get bit and his 8.72 lbs was enough to take the win, his first in four years!

Jim D’Ambra worked his Carolina Rig magic, as usual, and was on his way to a solid bag. Landing three fish for 7.65 lb including a chunky 3.39 lb tourney lunker, two more keepers would have given D’Ambra and easy victory. But, his bite turned off just like it did for everyone else and Jim was forced to bring only three fish to the scales. Despite not landing a limit, D’Ambra still landed in second place, a solid accomplishment given the conditions. Congratulations to Elson, D’Ambra, and to all the SSBM club members who turned out for the Billington Brawl 2022!
