Mike Drake is on a tear this season and it continued at Champlain. Drake has been putting in the hours pre-fishing and his hard work had already paid off with one victory and a third-place finish earlier in the season. Continuing that trend, Drake pre-fished Champlain for four days and discovered two key areas of shallow grass, along with a large dock that he knew might have enough fish for a win. And he was right! Swimming a jig through the grass and around the dock, Drake dominated the 1-Day Tournament with a massive 20.82 lb bag which include the tourney lunker, a 5.57 lb hawg! With that victory Mike Drake propelled himself into first place in the AOY race and landed in second place for All-Time Heaviest 1-Day bags. Congratulations to Mike Drake for a record-setting performance and a great win!
Leading the best of the rest, Bob Wheeler continued his strong season with a solid second-place finish. Bob flipped the heaviest matted weeds that he could find to land 15.51 lb of Ticonderoga largies and that was just enough to hold off a hard-charging Bill Barret who landed in third place. Congratulations to Bob Wheeler for another strong performance and to all the SSBM Club Members who braved the Big Lake in 2022!
