Winning Pattern
Moving baits in scattered weed and rock

Last year at Ticonderoga, Bob Wheeler took second place behind Mike Drake.  Well, this year Wheeler got his sweet revenge as he landed 31.88 lb of Largies and Smallies to win the 2-Day and defeat a hard-charging Mike Drake who ended up taking second with 28.53 lb.  Wheeler worked a variety of areas up north throwing moving baits around shallow weed and rock.  He landed quality largemouth in the weedy areas and would pickup an occasional Smallmouth when he ran into rock and gravel.  His pattern was consistent as he landed just about 16 lb each day.  Consistency is the toughest thing to achieve in bass fishing and as Bob Wheeler proved, when you do it, it often leads to victory.  Congratulations to Bob Wheeler for a great win!

Mike Drake, fresh off his victory in the 1-Day derby, continued his strong work by landing 14 lb each day of the 2-Day to grab second place.  Although his Smallie pattern continued to work it didn't kick out the big girls that he found on Friday.  So, he called an audible and salvaged his tourney with a couple of solid largemouth caught up shallow.  Decisions make all the difference in a tournament, and Drake made the right ones to deal with changing conditions and hold on for a solid second place finish.  Congratulations to Bob, Mike, and all the SSBM club members who fought the good fight during the Champlain 2-Day!
