Sometimes the most miserable days produce the best results. And that's exactly what happened for James Marino at John's Pond in the third tourney of the SSBM season. Marino was well prepared, having prefished multiple times and he wasn't about to let the weather prevent him from giving his best effort. As the rain started to fall around 7:00 am, Marino worked a series of docks, catching a couple of decent keepers. He then made a move and drop-shotted some floating rafts which resulted in his big fish of the day (and the tourney) at 4.99 lb. Having landed his kicker fairly early, Marino moved out to some deep weeds where he filled out his limit with more solid keepers. Working those same patterns all day, he eventually culled up to his winning weight of 13.99 lb. Congratulations to James Marino for his first club-level victory and for doing it under less-than-ideal conditions!
Not to be easily outdone, Ed Robak turned in a solid performance to land in second place. Having missed the 2022 season recovering from back surgery, apparently Ed wanted everyone to know that the back is back! Turning in a mixed bag of smallies and largies, anchored by a 4.52 hawg largemouth, Ed weighed 12.08 lb to grab the second spot behind Marino. Bill Barrett rounded out the top three with 11.99 lb, finishing just ounces back from Robak, but a decent bag nonetheless given the tough conditions. Congratulations to all the top finishers and to all the club members who competed on John's Pond 2023!
