Matt Allen had the catch of a lifetime in July when he welcomed his daughter Jane Christine Allen into the world! He took a well-deserved break from competition for a few weeks and let a couple of other club members get a taste of victory at Champlain. But, making his return at Long Pond Lakeville, Allen didn't waste any time reestablishing himself as the man to beat. And, although the fishing wasn't nearly as productive as last season's trip to Lakeville, Allen worked a combination of shallow top water areas and boat docks to bag 9.66 lbs which was just enough for the win. Congratulations to Matt Allen for his 3rd win of the season!
Bob Wheeler has been on a roll this season and he kept it going at Long Pond Lakeville. When docks didn't produce for Wheeler, he moved to fishing shoreline wood and caught a solid first keeper. From there, he ran shallow wood targets hoping to establish a pattern, but after a few hours with no success he was forced to move offshore. Probing offshore weeds with spinnerbaits and soft plastics, Bob filled out a solid limit. Late in the day, an offshore submerged tree produced the big bite that Wheeler was looking for to put him in the winner's circle, but unfortunately he couldn't land the fish and was forced to head to weigh-in with what he had. With a final weight of 8.88 lb, Wheeler locked up 2nd Place and lunker for the day, a 2.99 lb Lakeville Bucketmouth. More importantly, Bob jumped into 1st Place overall in the 2021 AOY Race as the club heads into the final tournament of the season at Ashumet! Congratulations to Bob Wheeler for a great tournament and to all the SSBM members who did battle at Long Pond Lakeville.
