Mike Drake has been dominating the 2022 season, winning half the tournaments that the club has fished so far this season. And Long Pond Lakeville was no different as The Drake put together a solid 12.01lb bag to take home the first-place trophy once again. Despite a fairly slow day fishing off-shore weed clumps, Drake stuck to his pattern and found the right clump just after 2:00 pm where he was able to limit out and cull up to his winning weight. It’s a common theme this year that has Drake in first place in the AOY race going into the final two tournaments of the season. Time will tell if he can hold on and earn his first AOY Title.
Mike Elson flipped and skipped shallow weeds, wood, and pads in the backs of coves all day to land his five fish. Elson fished hard to land 11.63lb and almost chased down Drake, but just couldn’t get that final 2lb bite that he needed to cull the last 1lbr in his limit. And that was the difference between first and second place, but it was a strong showing for Elson nonetheless. Congratulations to Mike Drake, Mike Elson, and to all the SSBM Club members who turned out to do battle on Long Pond Lakeville, 2022!
