Drop Shotting for Smallmouth in 30 ft of water
Tournaments at Mashpee Wakeby are often feast or famine, with one or two anglers catching great bags while the rest of the field struggles to get bites. Well, the final tournament of the 2019 season was certainly no different. While the rest of the field spent the day searching from 3 feet to 50 feet for any kind of action, Brian Wheeler spent most of his time on one 30 foot hole catching solid Smallies all day long.  Thoroughly working his area with a drop shot, Brian caught 11 keepers and was able to cull up to his final weight of 15.91 lbs by the end of the day.  Despite losing a monster 5lb Smallmouth at the side of the boat, his final weight was still more than enough to claim victory.  And with the victory, Wheeler also propelled himself past Jim D'Ambra to lock up the 2019 AOY Title, the second of his career with his previous AOY coming in 2011.  Congratulations to Brian Wheeler for a great win at Mashpee and a well-deserved AOY Title!

Clawing his way into second place was non-boater Brian Ware with 6.28 lb.  Brian landed two chunk Smallmouth but with the conditions as tough as they were those two fish were enough to capture second place.  A combination of a jig and a drop shot got the job done and his second place finish capped off an excellent season that ended with Ware in 7th place overall.  Congratulations to Brian Ware for a strong performance at Mashpee and for a great 2019 season.
