Winning Pattern
Carolina rigging drop-offs for post-spawn largemouth
Bass fisherman always talk about doing something “different” from everyone else in order to get bites that the competition is missing. We’ll that is exactly what Jim D’Ambra did at Wequaquet Lake on May 20th, and it earned him another first place trophy. While everyone else was searching out shallow bedding bass, D’Ambra was dragging a Carolina Rig along drop offs to go after big post-spawn females that had already left their nests, or were bedding so deep they couldn’t be seen. After figuring out exactly what bottom composition was holding fish, D’Ambra patiently dragged his way to first place. His 19.66 lb bag included a 5.58 lb hawg and landed Jim in the 5th spot for All-Time Heaviest 1-Day limits in club history. Congratulations to Jim D'Ambra for a great victory!

Finishing an agonizing .01 lb behind D'Ambra, Matt Allen grabbed second place with 19.65 lb. Allen found all of his fish on beds and if it wasn't for a spooky 4 pounder that refused to bite, Allen might have been standing in the winner's circle. Regardless, he turned in a fantastic effort as we've all come to expect from the reigning SSBM AOY!

Mike Drake also showed out with another strong performance, landing 16.47 lb including his second-straight tourney lunker which tipped the scales at 5.88 lbs and is now the weight to beat for season lunker.

Congratulations to all of the top finishers and to everyone that came to compete at Wequaquet Lake 2022!
