Drop Shotting break lines and skipping docks

Bass Tournaments are all about decision making. The right decisions lead to victory and glory, the wrong decisions to defeat and despair. Rob Bell’s tournament weekend started with the questionable, and life-threatening, decision of spending a cold North Country night in a tent with nothing but a sheet and a pillow. But after surviving a night on the brink of hypothermia, Bell’s decision making improved significantly. Come Tourney day he made all the right moves when it counted. He started his day by drop shotting along break lines in 10’-15’ of water which rewarded him with some decent Winni bass. Then, he moved in shallow to skip Docks in search of a lunker Largemouth. Of the 10,000 docks available on the Big Lake, Bell picked the right ones as he boated a 5.17 lb kicker which bumped his final weight up to a solid 11.97 lb.  He headed to weigh-in knowing that he did all he could and it was time to let things play out at the scales.

As Bell was filling out his solid bag, Bill Barrett was also having a decent day. Barrett used a combination of his signature Senko, a drop shot, and some top water presentations to land about 9 lb. And that’s all he would have had if he hadn’t made the decision to fish the docks in the launch area just prior to weigh in. A four pounder with 5 minutes to go pushed Barrett’s bag to exactly the same weight as Bell’s, 11.97 lb. But, the lunker tie breaker went to Bell and he was crowned the winner in one of the most dramatic weigh-ins in recent club history. Congratulations to Rob Bell for his first club win and to Bill Barret for making it the closest possible contest.
