Flipping shallow cover with soft plastics
With most of the field throwing jerkbaits, rattletraps, and other pre-spawn standards, Matt Allen force-fed his favorite soft plastics to those largies that had already moved shallow. Despite getting no bites for the first hour of the day, Matt stayed with his pattern and it eventually paid off. He thoroughly worked shoreline cover all day and brought 13.74 lb to the scales to win by over 4 lbs. Congratulations to Matt Allen for another great win! Fishing more typical pre-spawn moving baits, Bruce Veras brought 9.15 lb to the scales which was good for second place. Fresh off his Eastern Region victory at the TBF National Championship, Tim Farrell power fished his way to third place with 8.78 lb. Jim D'Ambra drop-shotted into fourth with 7.85 lb (yes, a drop shot, by Jim D'Ambra). Apparently, Jim will have to make room on his boat deck for another rod besides his carolina rig. Rounding out the top five was Brian Wheeler with 7.50 lb. Congratulations to all the winners and to all the Southshore club members who spent a day in the rain chasing some Billington Bass!
