Bill Barrett capped off a solid season with dominant win at Billington Sea. After starting the year strong with a win at Mashpee, things took a slight dip for Barrett on the Champlain swing with finishes that were lower than he expected. But, demonstrating the resilience of a true bass fishing veteran, Bill turned things around for the final three tournaments of the season landing in 3rd, 2nd, and 1st consecutively to bump himself up to 4th place overall for the season. Throwing his favorite drop shot on extended points at Billington Sea, Barrett found fish that other anglers were missing while fishing the same points, just up shallower. And realizing that the bite was stingy and the bass finicky, Barret went with small finesse offerings to temp wary largemouth. His strategy worked to the tune of 9.71 lbs with a 4.10 lb kicker that was good for tourney lunker. That was more than enough to seal the deal and lock up the victory. Congratulations to Bill Barrett for a great win and a strong finish to the 2024 season!
Jim D’Ambra came into Billington Sea in 2nd place overall in the AOY standings and needed a strong performance to have a shot at his 6th AOY trophy. Realizing quickly that the bass were not relating to weeds, D’Ambra found chunk rock and gravel areas to work with his Carolina Rig. Despite a very slow bite, Jim stuck with his program and slowly accumulated his 8.54 lb bag over the course of the day with his last fish coming only a few minutes before weigh-in. Although he wasn’t able to overtake Barrett for the win, his 2nd place finish earned him more than enough points to jump into first place for the season and take home his 6th AOY trophy. Congratulations to Jim D’Ambra for a great season and for earning the 2024 AOY trophy!
