Joe Trottier started the season by grinding out a win under brutal conditions at Monponsett Pond. And he finished the season by grinding out a win, with slightly better weather, at Lake Cochituate. It was this consistent level of effort that earned Trottier three wins this season, and also resulted in his first Angler of the Year title!
Going into the last tournament of the season at Lake Cochituate it was a two-man race for the AOY title. Joe Trottier was the man to beat and Justin Canada was coming on strong in second place. Whoever had the better finish at Cochituate would be crowned AOY 2025 and have bragging rights for the rest of the year!
The lake fished tough for most anglers, but in true AOY fashion, Joe Trottier just made it work. Throwing lipless cranks, chatterbaits, and Senkos in shallow weeds, Trottier put together a decent limit of 2 lb bass by mid-afternoon. Fearing that Canada would bring in a big bag, Trottier kept his foot on the gas and made a last minute move to the North Pond. That turned out to be the right decision as one cast of the Jackhammer locked into a 4.77 lb beast that would take lunker for the tourney and end the AOY race right then and there. When the fish were brought to the scales, Joe Trottier's 13.02 lbs was more than enough to take the win and lock up his first AOY trophy. Congratulations to Joe Trottier for an incredible season and a well deserved AOY title!
Jim D'Ambra had another solid performance, as usual, and finished in second place. Dragging his signature Carolina Rig on weedy flats in the Middle Pond, D'Ambra put together a limit of small largemouth in the morning. Moving to the North Pond and fishing similar weed flats, he upgraded all of his fish and doubled his weight to finish with 10.78 lb, a very respectable bag under tough conditions. Congratulations to Joe Trottier, Jim D'Ambra and all of the SSBM club members who did battle on Lake Cochituate 2025!
