Ripping Chatterbaits through offshore weeds

Despite the terrible conditions, Joe Trottier stuck to his pre-spawn tournament strategy and worked it to perfection.  With a difficult practice day the week prior to the tournament, Joe was not confident that he could make the cold pre-spawners bite, but he followed his instincts and worked a bladed jig through offshore weed all day.  Seeking out the warmest water he could find, Joe ripped his bladed jig through weedline after weedline trying to generate a reaction bite.  After landing only a couple of keepers from spots all around the lake, he eventually found the area he was looking for and boated three bass on three consecutive casts to fill out his limit.  With a total of 10.97 lbs, he had more than enough to seal the deal for the blustery, freezing season opener!  Congratulations to Joe Trottier for his first club victory and for being the last man standing in the worst possible conditions!

Former AOY Mike Drake did his best to run Trottier down, but was only able to land three keepers for 8.16 lb.  His second-place effort came thanks to a spinnerbait thrown in shallow areas around the lake.  Admittedly, Drake's pattern of chunking and winding had more to do with keeping himself warm than it did with getting bites, but it worked anyway!  Congratulations to Mike Drake for a valiant second-place effort and to all the SSBM club members who braved the elements on West Mopo 2025!
