Winning Pattern
Bed fishing and skipping shallow cover with soft plastics
With sunny and calm conditions predominant for the first four hours of the tournament, the day setup perfectly for bed fishing and Matt Allen took full advantage. Fishing beds with texas-rigged plastics and a drop shot rig, Matt landed a solid bag of largemouth. Skipping shallow cover and docks in between beds, Allen culled up to his final weight of 18.71 lb to top second place finisher, Brian Wheeler, by 0.38 lb. Congratulations to Matt Allen for another great victory and for taking a dominant lead in the AOY standings for 2016. Brian Wheeler had a great day himself, almost knocking Matt Allen out of the winner's circle, but fell short by just .38 lb. Like Allen, Wheeler fished beds for most of his weight, including a 6.14 lb brute that not only took lunker for the tournament but also lands Brian in the number 9 spot on the All-Time Club Lunker list. Great job Bri ! Tim Farrell also had a solid bag at 17.22 lb anchored by a 5.14 lb kicker which was good for 3rd place. Bill Barrett landed 15.18 lb including a 2.87 lb smallmouth for 4th place and Jim D'Ambra weighed 12.99 lb to round out the top five. Congratulations again to Matt Allen, the rest of the top five, and to all the SSBM club members who did battle with the Smallies and Largies of Wequaquet Lake.
