In bass fishing, a bad practice can often tell you more than a good practice.  Learning what not to do is sometimes more valuable than figuring out that perfect pattern that ends up changing come tournament day.  After a poor practice, Justin Canada said the lake was empty...no fish to be found.  But, come tournament day, Canada went to work with his Forward Facing Sonar and after failing to locate fish on points, he moved into pockets and coves only to find huge schools of Smallmouth hanging around in the dead center of the cuts.  With bass relating to rocks, wood, and bait, Canada caught them using a drop shot and Damiki Rig in classic FFS style.  Although he didn't get any big bites, he culled through 20 or more 2 lb fish to reach his final weight of 10.10 lb.  Given how tough the lake was fishing, that weight turned out to be more than enough to seal the deal on Canada's first club victory.  Congratulations to Justin Canada for a great win!

Bill Barrett gave it his all and landed in second place with 8.95 lb.  Downsizing to 5lb test for the ultra-clear water, Barrett drop-shotted in 30+ feet of water to dredge up some deep-dwelling Smallies.  Unfortunately, Barrett lost his big fish of the day, a 3+ lb Smallie that would have put him in contention for the win.  Regardless, it was a solid performance on a difficult day and it earned Bill Barrett a well-deserved second place trophy.  Congratulations to Bill Barrett and to all of the SSBM club members that fought it out on Lake Winnisquam!
