October 7, 2017Balchunas Dominates!D'Ambra wins AOY!Mashpee Wakeby - Mashpee, MA
The final tournament of the year was truly a test of the best. Not only would a stingy Mashpee bite determine the tourney champ but it would also wrap up the closest AOY race in years. When the scales closed, Wally Balchunas took home the tournament victory with 14.65 lb of Mashpee Smallies, including the Lunker Smallie of the year at 4.43 lb. Jim D'Ambra, fishing as a non-boater with Balchunas, managed the only other limit at 10.91 lb. But, it was enough to propel him ahead of Bill Barrett and Matt Allen to lock up the 2017 Angler of the Year title.
