April 25, 2025D'Ambra wins B.A.S.S. Nation Qualifier non-boater division !James River, VA
Jim D'Ambra went into the B.A.S.S. Nation Qualifer on the James River with a limited game plan and limited hope. Online research had given him an idea of what to throw and where to throw it, but as a non-boater he knew he would have limited options based on where his boater decided to fish. But on day 1, right out of the gate, D'Ambra asserted himself as a contender. With his boater methodically fishing cypress trees and stumps, D'Ambra relied on the non-boater's best friend, a texas-rigged weightless Senko, to pick off fish that his boater missed. And one fish in particular, that D'Ambra assumed was a cat fish when it bit, turned out to be a 6lb 14oz largemouth that would anchor his first-day bag and propel him into a tie for first place with 13lb 13oz!
Day 2 was more of the same for D'Ambra, as he soaked his Senko in cypress knees while his boater moved quickly through them. His patience and confidence paid off, as he landed a solid 9lb 12oz bag that catapulted him into first place overall with 23lb 9oz!
Going into Day 3, D'Ambra knew the tourney was his to lose. After a sleepless night of planning his strategy for the Championship round, he decided to stick with what was working and try to Senko his was to victory. Unfortunately for Jim, his final day boater chose to run and gun, spot hopping all day which left D'Ambra with few opportunities to soak his Senko. But, not to be deterred, he managed to land a few fish while his boater retied or planned his next move, and his final day weight of 6lb 4oz gave him 29lb 13oz overall for three days. And that proved to be just enough to land him the big blue trophy for 1st Place in the Nation Qualifer and to punch his ticket to the National Championship in Lacrosse, Wisconsin, October 22-25! Congratulations to Jim D'Ambra for another amazing victory and for qualifying for his second B.A.S.S. Nation National Championship!
