September 6-7, 2025Canada is State Champ!
Hudson RIver, Catskill, NY
To say Justin Canada is on a heater would be a massive understatement. After winning the club 2-Day at Lake Champlain, he went on to win at Long Pond Lakeville and now, for his biggest feat of the season, he dominated the B.A.S.S. Nation State Championship at the Hudson River, winning by almost 10 lbs!
Having never fished the Hudson, or any tidal fishery for that matter, Justin Canada went into practice not knowing what to expect. But after 8 straight hours of practice without a fish, he knew exactly what to expect…the worst! And then, on his way back to the ramp, he spotted a grass flat near deep water that looked promising. With nothing to lose, and without even checking out the area, he decided that would be his starting spot for the tourney.
We’ll, that decision turned out to be the right one as Canada landed on a school of aggressive Smallmouth hanging out along the drop off that were all willing to crush a Texas-rigged Creature Bait. With a limit in the boat by 8 am, he continued to work the school all day, culling 8 times and adding two 3 lbrs to his bag for a final Day-1 weight of 13.26 lbs which put him in first place overall.
Day 2 was more of the same for Canada as he relocated his school near where he had left them and landed another quick limit. Despite some pressure from other anglers, he was able to cull up to 12.70 lbs for the day. And when the weigh-in concluded, Canada’s total weight of 26.02 lbs landed him in the winner’s circle by almost a 10 lb margin! Congratulations to Justin Canada for keeping his incredible winning streak alive with another great victory and for being crowned B.A.S.S. Nation State Champion!
